As in the song by Lynard Skynard--I am a simple man, a redneck country boy whose father taught him that working class people were not immune to knowledge. After working up through the ranks from airman to Major, I retired to do other things. I teach 7th graders (history, math, and life), I preach when called upon, and my wife and I counsel those temporarily off the path.
I passionately hate Communism, which is how I found Dr. Fleming and his book.
Purpose What This Blog Is About:This blog's purpose is to conduct spiritual warfare operations in the minds of those who have been deceived into false doctrine, or who have been deceived by the Enemy into thinking they are saved when they are not.
Theological Questions of the Week
Is there a spiritual gift of "musician?
Other than Jeremiah and John the Baptist (saved in the womb) is there any record of anyone in the Bible being saved other than through the preached and/or spoken Word?
Describe the music at one of the New Testament churches founded in Acts.
Can anyone bring a New Covenant believer "into His Presence" by any means, musical or otherwise?
Answers: The list of spiritual gifts in Romans 12 and 1 Cor 12 omit any mention of musician or singer as a spiritual gift. Not only that, but as to the Biblical gifts given by God to the church in the form of gifted men (apostle, prophet, evangelist, and teaching pastors--Eph 4:11), there is no office of "worship leader" in the New Covenant. Note--there were certainly music leaders in the Old Covenant, as several of the superscriptions of the psalms show us, but that office was not preserved in the New Covenant. All of the New Covenant salvation experiences were through the preaching and/or witnessing of God's Word--Pentecost's 3000 souls, The Eunuch (Acts 8:26-40), Cornelius and his family (Acts 10), Lydia (Acts 16:14), The Jailer (Acts 16:30-31). And so on, and so on. There is no description given of the music played at church in the New Testament. There are oblique references to music in Ephesians and Colossians, but they do not demonstrate any form of worship, whereas preaching, praying, the Lord's Supper, teaching, church discipline, baptism, discipleship, and giving are dealt with at length and in detail. 1 Tim 2:1-8, 1 Cor 5, Mat 18:15-20, Mat 28:18-20, 1 Cor 11:17-34, 1 Cor 1:17-24, Mat 6:1-15 (Eph 5:19) "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,"(Col 3:16) "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Finally, a New Covenant believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit ( Rom 8:14-17, Gal 4:4-6), and is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:18-20, 1 Pet 2:1-9). The Old Covenant believer did identify with a particular place and had to be conducted into the Presence of God, but in our dispensation, the temple is gone, the Old Covenant is dead, and we need no priest to mediate our communion with the God who lives in us. Each and every believer can enter the very throne room of God any time any place, with no one's help except the Holy Spirit who indwells us. Heb 4:14-16, 10:1-19, 1 Tim 2:4-6
